Deal of the Month

The new, fresh colors of the Coltene PRESIDENT line provide a better contrast between wash and tray material and thus show a more accurate detail readability

The introduction of Coltene PRESIDENT Putty in 1975 – the first A-Silicone in the market – is considered a milestone in the development of high-precision dental impression materials. Through continuous development, the PRESIDENT brand continues to impress with its remarkable quality.

The new, high pigmented colours of the Coltene PRESIDENT Putty the Original line provide better contrast and show every detail, even before the impression is poured. All consistencies offer excellent flow properties in a moist environment.

Coltene PRESIDENT Putty tray materials convince with high tear strength and elasticity. Due to flawless removal impressions are precise and succeed even under most difficult conditions. Coltene PRESIDENT heavy body and MonoBody are surface activated and thixotropic with fast pressure build up so that the wash material is easily driven into the clinically critical areas. Coltene PRESIDENT putties mix quickly and are offered in three different end hardnesses for each individual case.

Coltene President Putty Packaging Contains:

putty super soft

Base: orange / Catalyst: light grey

  • ISO 4823, Type 0, putty consistency

Indications

  • Primary impression in the corrective impression technique
  • Tray material for pick-up impression in the dou- ble mix technique
  • Impressions for study models, orthodontic model, matrices

Important

  • Check curing of the impression intraorally prior to removing.
  • Higher temperatures accelerate the curing pro- cess, lower temperatures slow down the curing process.
  • To extend the processing time, you can also

place the material in the refrigerator prior to use.

Contra-indications

Provided that the product is used as directed, there are no known contra-indications.

Side effects / Interactions

Polyvinylsiloxanes have very good biological com- patibility. No harmful side effects and interactions in patients and practice staff have been reported. Impression materials are intended to set in the mouth of the patient. However, they should remain in the mouth not more than twice the setting time. Although they have reasonably high tear strength, care should be taken that no portion of the impres- sion material remains in the interdental spaces or in the sulcus. If necessary, pronounced undercuts should be blocked in advance.

Trays

Tray selection depends on the impression tech- nique or personal preference (stock trays or custom trays). For perfect adhesion, we recommend to ap- ply a thin layer of Coltène Adhesive to all trays or any other adhesive that is indicated for use with polyvinylsiloxanes.

Dosage

Measure out level scoopfulls of Base and Catalyst from the container.

Attention: Avoid interchanging the color coded measuring-scoops, each belonging to one of the components. Risk of contamination!

Mixing

  1. Take the Base and Catalyst with the fingertips and start mixing. (always wear gloves when working)
  2. Knead the material with the fingertips until the colour is uniform.

Attention: only use the Base and Catalyst from the same package.

To extend the processing time, you can also place the material in the refrigerator prior to use.

«Double mix technique»

During mixing, the user can start applying the cor- rection material. Choose the start of mixing such, that filling of the tray and syringing are completed at the same time. Keep the oral tip immersed in the material at all times to prevent the formation of air voids. Place tray immediately in the patient‘s mouth! Press tray for 2 - 3 s and then hold in situ un- til cured completely.

«Corrective impression technique»

In order to guarantee good cohesion with the wash material, the primary impression must be carefully cleaned and dried before further use.

Important: always wear gloves when working. Skin secretions, latex gloves and surfaces contami- nated by latex gloves may interfere with the setting process of polyvinylsiloxanes. Only touch material and the surfaces of which the impression is taken (teeth, preparations, retraction cords) with thor- oughly washed and rinsed hands (wash for 15 s with a detergent, rinse with water for another 15 s) or with vinyl gloves. Compounds containing euge- nol or haemostatic substances can also impede perfect setting process. If H2O2 hydrogen peroxide is used for disinfection, it is recommended to thor- oughly rinse with lukewarm water afterwards in order to avoid bubble formation. In order to guar- antee good cohesion with the wash material, the

primary impression must be carefully cleaned and dried before further use.

Always also check curing of the impression in- traorally prior to removing from the mouth.

Disinfection

The impression should be rinsed under (cold) run- ning tap water after removal from the mouth. After rinsing, disinfection with a suitable commercial dental disinfectant solution will not affect the im- pression surface or dimensions. Acrylic trays should be protected against water absorption.

Manufacture of models

Die stone models may be poured after 30 min at the earliest. The impression remains dimensionally stable for a practically unlimited period of time (at least 7 days). The surface tension will be reduced and pouring will be facilitated if the impression is briefly washed out with a detergent and rinsed thoroughly in lukewarm clear water afterwards. All industry-standard dental stone model materials (i.e. Fujirock Dental Stone, Hard Rock Dental Stone), epoxy resin and polyurethane can be used.

Cleaning of trays

Cured material can be removed using a blunt in- strument. Soaking in a universal commercial sol- vent or light petrol will dissolve the Coltène Adhe- sive. These solvents should only be used in a well- ventilated area. The trays can be cleaned and disin- fected as usual.
